Kellogsville Freshman Nicole Bush took over the lead a little after mile one and opened up roughly a 50 meter lead by the two mile mark to capture the 2000 Girl's Division 3 individual championship.

Bush's goal was just to run well and possibly finish in under 18:00. Visibly exhausted, Bush looked very much like she just ran a tough race and gave all she had.

"Tired and happy", bush said after taking her first ever state championship. By the way in which she pulled away from the rest of the pack, this may not be her last.

Bush's time of 17:53 set a new D-3 MIS Course Record. Krishawna Parker of Detroit Crockett finished in second place in 18:17.

Bush's performance was key, as it helped propell her team to the team championship. Kellogsville ended up with 80 points to Lansing Catholic Central's 90.
