With the distance runners still recovering from qualifying for cross country nationals two weeks ago, the Charger women's track team deployed many of its talented sprinters and field event athletes at the Oiler Opener this weekend at Findlay, Ohio.

Those sprinters made their presence felt across many events at the indoor track season opener. One talented returner, sophomore Corinne Zehner, took fourth in the 400 meter dash, yet finished behind one of the team's speedier newcomers.

Freshman Allison Duber made a big splash in her first collegiate indoor meet, running a sub-60 second 400, taking first place with a time of 59.25. She also turned in a sixth-place finish in the 200 at 26.74 seconds.

Freshman Sarah benson took fifth in her first 60 meter dash event as a Charger with a time of 7.99 seconds. Sophomore Danielle Gagne turned in two strong performances, 25.86 in the 200 (second place) and 16 feet, 7 inches in the long jump (fourth place).

The 4x400 relay team was part of a four-team jam that all finished within less than a second of one another. The Chargers took fourth in the event with a time of 4:11.59.

Two more freshmen registered good finishes in field events: Dana Newell took second in the high jump at 5-3, and Madison Estell was fourth in the triple jump, clearing exactly 34 feet.
